Who hasn't had to throw away one of their favorite items of clothing after unsightly and annoying lint appeared? So, if you want to keep wearing them, it's helpful to know
how to remove pills from underwear . There are effective ways, as we'll show you. But don't forget that the most important thing is
to learn how to wash clothes properly , as most lint is produced by garments rubbing together in the washing machine.
How to remove pilling from clothes with these little tricks
At
Abanderado, we always recommend choosing quality underwear. Garments made with organic cotton, bamboo, or
cutting-edge fibers like TENCEL are less likely to deteriorate and pill. In any case, if these lint pills appear due to improper washing or other reasons, you don't need to replace them. First,
try removing the pills with these tips :
Electric lint remover
This small, affordable appliance is a perfect option for those looking for
speed and convenience when removing lint from clothing . And, of course, efficiency. Plus, it can be used with small items, such as briefs, or large items, such as T-shirts or long underwear.
There are
electric lint removers with rechargeable batteries or battery-operated models, but the operation is the same in both cases. Simply
lay the garment flat on a surface and run the lint remover over it, using an up-and-down motion, similar to ironing.
Lint roller
The lint roller is
a classic , familiar to all of us who have had to remove lint from a garment at some point. Inexpensive and easy to find at any supermarket, it's very effective at removing pet hair and dust residue, although less effective on lint balls.
We don't recommend making it your first option, but
it can be helpful in a pinch . To make it more effective, stretch the clothing and apply the adhesive, pressing firmly so the lint sticks.
Disposable razor
The first two solutions we suggested were items specifically designed to remove pills from clothing. However,
there are also options using items we all have around our homes . For example, you can use a razor blade, although we don't recommend it because you risk cutting yourself or tearing the garment if you're not careful enough.
A better choice is disposable razors . However, be aware that they will dull their edge, so you'll have to throw them away after use to prevent them from damaging your clothes. However, they're incredibly effective;
they completely eliminate pilling . Again, it's important to lay them flat and smooth the garment well, on a smooth surface.
Tape or adhesive tape
This is the
most homemade version of the aforementioned lint roller. But don't rule it out, because it can get you out of a tight spot more than once. In principle, any adhesive tape you have around the house will work, although it's
preferable to use one that's as wide as possible and sticks well enough.
Simply
wrap three or four turns of adhesive tape around your hand . Obviously, the side with the adhesive should face outward. Place the item of underwear flat on a table or similar surface, without wrinkles, while you run your hand over it several times. Press
firmly enough to make the little balls stick . As soon as you see that the adhesive is full of lint, replace it with a new one if you want it to remain effective.
Lint-removing rubber glove
You might not be familiar with this homemade trick: using a simple rubber glove to remove lint from your clothes. It's not one of the most talked-about, yet it's very
practical and it works . It's as simple as putting on a pair of the gloves you use for housecleaning and
wiping the lint-ridden garment with your hand several times .
Always maintain the
same direction , from top to bottom. You'll need to repeat this process several times until the lint sticks to the glove's rubber. You'll also often have to use your other hand to pull the lint off and remove it from the fabric.
We've suggested some very simple and practical home tricks to help you get rid of the problem of lint on your clothes. In any case, keep in mind
that choosing any of the Abanderado collections already gives you an advantage. The quality of all the fabrics we use in their manufacture minimizes the possibility of pilling on your underwear.
